Pushcart

Negril's new cliffside attraction

Negril, on Jamaica’s west end, is a bona fide party town. Whether that’s a selling point or a stigma depends on your point of view, but either way, it makes the new restaurant Pushcart an appealing outlier.

Serving local specialties like jerk chicken and shrimp, bushman’s stew with curried goat, and spicy “peppa-pot” soup alongside an appealingly adult cocktail list, the friendly, cliffside restaurant is casual, like all of Negril, but decidedly better behaved. Don’t miss their best drink, the Cartini, made with freshly muddled mint, cucumber, brown sugar and Appleton Genesis Rum — and refreshingly not served in a yard glass.

Beyond the food and the drinks, Pushcart also offers live music (which, given the location, tends to be reggae-based) along with panoramic views of the Caribbean and Negril’s other touted trait: sunset. The crowd is generally older than say, college age, or couples. You know, the folks who prefer to remember the night, and fortunately Pushcart deserves their memory.
